Where to drink Champagne on the Amalfi Coast and Capri?

The Amalfi Coast is a string of villages stacked on cliffs above the sea, joined by one winding coast road and a fleet of ferries, with Capri just offshore. Many of the places pouring Champagne here are hotel terraces and restaurants set in old convents, palaces and villas, where the view does half the work.

Positano, Amalfi and Ravello hold most of the Champagne on our map. Positano is the busiest, with hotel bars and garden restaurants in the middle of the village. Amalfi has cliffside hotels on both sides of town, while Ravello sits high above the sea and moves at a slower pace, with bars tucked into historic villas and their gardens. Between them, small places like Furore and Conca dei Marini have restaurants that are worth the drive on their own.

On Capri, look beyond the Piazzetta. Some of the island’s best wine lists are in quieter corners, away from the day-trip crowds.

The wine lists along this coast are often serious. Several Michelin-starred kitchens keep long Champagne sections, and grower Champagne shows up more often than you might expect. Champagne by the glass is easiest to find at hotel bars.

Explore the Champagne Hunters map before you go, and if you find a place serving real Champagne that isn’t listed yet, add it to the map.

Good to know

This is a seasonal destination. Most hotels and many restaurants open around April and close in late October or November, so check opening dates before planning an off-season trip. In summer the coast road gets very busy, and ferries between Positano, Amalfi, Salerno and Capri are often the quicker option. Many of the best tables are on hotel terraces with only a few seats, so book ahead.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I drink Champagne on the Amalfi Coast and Capri?

Positano, Amalfi and Ravello have most of the venues, from hotel bars to Michelin-starred restaurants. Furore and Conca dei Marini add a few more along the coast road, and on Capri there are hotel and restaurant terraces away from the Piazzetta. Use the Champagne Hunters map to see the listed venues.

Can I order Champagne by the glass on the Amalfi Coast?

Yes, especially at hotel bars, several of which pour Champagne by the glass. Many restaurants focus on bottles, so check the individual listing before you go.

When is the best time to drink Champagne on the Amalfi Coast?

May, June and September are lovely, with warm weather and fewer crowds than July and August. Most venues close in winter, so the season effectively runs from spring to autumn.

What should I eat with Champagne on the Amalfi Coast?

Seafood is the obvious match: raw fish, anchovies from Cetara, the catch of the day grilled simply and pasta with clams. Dishes using the local lemons also work well with a crisp Champagne.

What else should I drink on the Amalfi Coast?

Limoncello, made from the coast’s large Sfusato Amalfitano lemons, is the classic way to finish a meal. For wine, look for Costa d’Amalfi DOC whites from Furore, Ravello and Tramonti.

What should I see on the Amalfi Coast and Capri?

Visit the gardens of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone in Ravello, the cathedral in Amalfi and the steep lanes of Positano. On Capri, take in the Piazzetta, the Faraglioni rocks and, if the sea is calm, the Blue Grotto.

What counts as Champagne on Champagne Hunters?

Champagne Hunters only lists venues serving authentic Champagne from the Champagne region of France. Prosecco and other Italian sparkling wines are not included unless the venue also serves Champagne.
