Where to drink Champagne in Saint-Tropez?
Saint-Tropez started out as a small fishing village and became shorthand for the good life on the Riviera. The old port is lined with yachts and café terraces, and behind it the narrow streets of La Ponche still feel like the old fishermen’s quarter. Champagne is part of the daily routine here, whether it’s a glass on a hotel terrace above the harbour or a bottle at dinner in the old village.
The Champagne on our map sits in and around the old village, all within a few minutes’ walk of the port. Hotel bars on the harbour watch the yachts come and go, while small restaurants in the backstreets keep short, well-chosen lists. Champagne by the glass is easy to find in Saint-Tropez, and several venues pour more than one house.
The famous beach clubs are not in Saint-Tropez itself. They line Pampelonne beach in the neighbouring commune of Ramatuelle, a short drive south. If you’re adding a beach day to your plans, allow for traffic in July and August.
Explore the Champagne Hunters map before you go, and if you find a place serving real Champagne that isn’t listed yet, add it to the map.
Good to know
Saint-Tropez is quiet in winter, and many hotels and restaurants close from around November until spring. In summer the village is packed and the road in can be very slow, so the boat from Sainte-Maxime across the bay is a popular shortcut. The market on Place des Lices, on Tuesday and Saturday mornings, is worth planning your day around.
