Where to drink Champagne in Sardinia?

Sardinia is big, rugged and mostly quiet, but its north-east corner tells a different story. On the Costa Smeralda, Porto Cervo fills up every summer with yachts, beach clubs and Champagne bars that stay open late. The rest of the island keeps things simpler, with wine bars in Olbia, Cagliari and the small towns along the coast.

Most of the Champagne on our map is in Gallura, the north-east of the island. Porto Cervo has several Champagne bars and lounges around the marina, and nearby Baja Sardinia has a beach club set into the granite rocks, known for its sunsets. Further north, Santa Teresa Gallura is smaller and more relaxed, with wine bars and seaside restaurants looking across the strait towards Corsica.

Olbia, the main arrival point for the north, has enoteche that keep Champagne next to Sardinian wines all year round. In the south, Cagliari has wine bars too, and the city stays lively long after the summer crowds have left the coast.

Explore the Champagne Hunters map before you go. If you find a bar or restaurant serving real Champagne that isn’t listed yet, add it to the map and help the next Champagne lover find it.

Good to know

The Costa Smeralda is very seasonal. Many venues in Porto Cervo and Baja Sardinia open only from around June to September, and August is the busiest and most expensive month. Prices in Porto Cervo match its reputation, so it’s worth checking the listing and the venue’s own website before you go. Distances on the island are bigger than they look: Olbia to Cagliari takes around three hours by car.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I drink Champagne in Sardinia?

Start in Porto Cervo and Baja Sardinia on the Costa Smeralda, where Champagne bars and beach clubs are concentrated. Santa Teresa Gallura, Olbia and Cagliari have wine bars and restaurants with Champagne on the list. Use the Champagne Hunters map to see the listed venues.

Can I order Champagne by the glass in Sardinia?

Yes, many of the bars and enoteche on our map pour Champagne by the glass. Beach clubs usually work with bottle service, often with a minimum spend for tables and sunbeds.

When is the best time to drink Champagne in Sardinia?

June and September give you a warm sea and open venues without the August crowds. Many Costa Smeralda venues close in winter, while wine bars in Olbia and Cagliari stay open all year.

What should I eat with Champagne in Sardinia?

Look for local seafood: oysters, bottarga, the cured mullet roe often grated over pasta, and lobster in season. Pane carasau, the thin and crispy Sardinian flatbread, makes a good snack with a glass.

What else should I drink in Sardinia?

Vermentino di Gallura is the island’s only DOCG wine, a fresh white from the same corner as Porto Cervo. Cannonau is the classic red, and mirto, a liqueur made from myrtle berries, is the traditional way to end a meal.

What should I see in Sardinia?

Take a boat trip around the La Maddalena archipelago from Palau, explore the beaches of the Costa Smeralda and walk through the old Castello quarter in Cagliari. The nuraghi, Bronze Age stone towers found across the island, are unlike anything else in Italy.

What counts as Champagne on Champagne Hunters?

Champagne Hunters only lists venues serving authentic Champagne from the Champagne region of France. Prosecco and other Italian sparkling wines are not included unless the venue also serves Champagne.
