Where to drink Champagne in Cannes?

Cannes knows how to do a drink with a view. Champagne fits right into the city’s rhythm – from an afternoon glass after the beach to aperitif hour in the old town or a bottle with dinner overlooking the Mediterranean.

You’ll find Champagne in wine bars, restaurants, hotel bars and beachside spots, with plenty of options around the Croisette, Carré d’Or and Le Suquet. Cannes also has a surprisingly strong wine-bar scene, including places specifically focused on Champagne.

In Cannes, choosing where to drink can be almost as important as choosing what to drink.

For a relaxed afternoon, head towards the Croisette and the beaches, where you can settle in with a drink and watch the Mediterranean. Around aperitif time, the city opens up in a different way – Le Suquet brings cobbled streets and terraces, while Carré d’Or is full of bars and places made for starting the evening before dinner.

If you’d rather focus on the wine, Cannes has several wine bars worth knowing about. The local tourism board currently lists 14 wine bars around the city, including places specialising in Champagne and wine from smaller producers.

There’s also a very local side to Cannes worth exploring. The city’s food culture is strongly influenced by Provence and the Mediterranean, with fresh fish, local vegetables, olive oil and dishes such as socca, pissaladière and bouillabaisse. That makes Champagne an easy match for a long lunch or dinner by the sea.

Good to know

For something genuinely local, take a boat to the Lérins Islands. On Saint-Honorat, the monks of Lérins Abbey have been making wine from the island’s vineyards for centuries, and you can have lunch at La Tonnelle with those wines alongside Mediterranean food.

Cannes also has its own local liqueur, Lérina, made on Saint-Honorat from a blend of 44 plants, fruits and spices. It’s a very different drink from Champagne, but a fun one to know about if you want to try something that belongs specifically to this corner of the Riviera.
