Quebec City is one of North America’s most atmospheric destinations for a food and Champagne trip. Old Quebec (Vieux-Québec) is the city’s historic heart, with more than 400 years of history, fortified walls, cobblestone streets and French colonial architecture. It’s also the only fortified city north of Mexico and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
For Champagne lovers, the area inside the walls is a natural place to start, with elegant restaurants, hotel bars and wine-focused spots. Petit-Champlain, Place Royale and the Old Port are particularly beautiful areas to explore, while Grande Allée and Parliament Hill offer a more spacious, polished atmosphere just outside the old city.
Quebec City also makes a great pairing destination because the local cuisine is rich and comforting. Think oysters, seafood, Québec cheeses and other local specialities alongside Champagne. For a more local drink, look for Québec sparkling wine, cider and craft spirits.
Quebec City is very walkable, especially around Old Quebec, so it’s easy to combine sightseeing with restaurant and bar stops. Don’t miss Dufferin Terrace, Château Frontenac, the Citadelle and the Plains of Abraham, then wander down to Petit-Champlain and the Old Port.
The city’s history is a big part of what makes it special. Founded in the early 17th century, Quebec City became an important centre of French North America, and its historic architecture still gives the city an unmistakably European character.
