Champagne city guide

Where to drink Champagne in Vera?

Vera is a much more relaxed destination than the big Spanish cities, with a Mediterranean beach atmosphere, plenty of restaurants and a strong tapas culture. The municipality stretches from the inland town of Vera to the coast around Vera Playa and Puerto Rey, so it’s worth thinking of the whole area rather than just the historic centre.

If you’re looking for a Champagne bar or restaurant Champagne, you’ll find fewer dedicated wine-focused places than in Madrid or Barcelona, but there still are some restaurants and bars where Champagne bubbles can fit nicely into a relaxed evening. The local food scene is particularly good for what to eat with Champagne – think prawns, seafood, fresh fish and other Mediterranean dishes.

Good to know

Vera works best if you’re after beaches, sunshine, seafood and a slower pace. The area is also a good base for exploring the wider Levante Almeriense, including nearby Mojácar and the coast towards Cabo de Gata.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I look for Champagne in Vera?

Check both Vera town and Vera Playa, as they offer quite different atmospheres. The coastal area has more holiday restaurants and bars, while the town has a more local feel.

Can I drink Champagne by the glass in Vera?

The selection is more limited than in larger Spanish cities. If you find any restaurant or bar that serves Champagne by glass, help fellow seekers out and add this place on the Champagne Hunters map.

Is Vera good for wine lovers?

Vera isn’t really a wine destination in the same way as some of Spain’s better-known wine regions, but it’s a good place to enjoy Andalusian and Spanish wines alongside Mediterranean food.

What should I eat with Champagne in Vera?

Try prawns, fresh fish, seafood and other Mediterranean dishes. The local cuisine makes plenty of sense with Champagne, particularly when you’re sitting somewhere near the coast.

What else should I drink in Vera?

Try Andalusian and Almería wines, or look for a Spanish Cava if you want something sparkling but different from Champagne.

What should I see in Vera?

Spend time around Vera Playa and its long sandy beaches, explore the old town and consider heading towards nearby Mojácar or further along the Almería coast. Vera’s tourism office also highlights its gastronomy, beaches, nature and cultural heritage as key parts of the destination.

Is Vera worth visiting?

Yes, particularly if you’re looking for sun, beaches, seafood and a quieter side of southern Spain rather than a busy city break. It also makes a convenient base for exploring more of the Almería coastline.
