Where to drink Champagne in St. Louis?
St. Louis is a river city, best known for the Gateway Arch on the banks of the Mississippi, a long brewing history and a serious love of barbecue. Away from downtown, neighbourhoods like the Central West End and nearby Clayton have the wine bars and bistros where Champagne shows up on the list.
The Champagne on our map sits mostly west of downtown. The Central West End, next to Forest Park, has French-style bistros and relaxed wine houses. In Grand Center, the theatre district, there’s a Champagne bar inside the historic Fabulous Fox Theatre, handy before or after a show. Clayton and the DeMun area, just beyond the city limits, add a few neighbourhood wine bars and shops where you can drink in or take a bottle home.
Missouri has a real connection to Champagne’s history. In the 1870s, the state entomologist Charles Riley helped show that American grapevine rootstocks could resist phylloxera, the pest that was destroying European vineyards, and millions of rootstocks from Missouri were shipped to France.

Good to know
St. Louis is a beer town at heart and home to the Anheuser-Busch brewery, so many bars lean towards beer and cocktails. For Champagne, wine bars and bistros are your best bet. Missouri wine country around Augusta and Hermann is within easy driving distance to the west, and Augusta became the first American Viticultural Area in 1980.
