Where to drink Champagne in Romania?
Romania has a growing wine and restaurant scene, with Bucharest naturally offering the widest choice of Champagne, wine bars and more upscale restaurants. But there’s plenty to explore beyond the capital too, particularly if you’re interested in Romanian wine.
The country has a long winemaking history and a surprisingly diverse range of local grapes. You’ll find everything from crisp whites to rich reds and Romanian sparkling wines, with regions such as Dealu Mare, Transylvania and Moldova worth knowing about. If you normally reach for Champagne, trying a local sparkling wine while travelling here is a fun way to see what Romania has to offer.
Good to know
Romanian wine country can be a great addition to a trip, especially if you have time to get outside Bucharest. And when it comes to food, Champagne has plenty of options – fresh cheeses, smoked fish, seafood and lighter appetisers all work well with bubbles.
Check the Champagne Hunters map before you go, and if you find a place that’s already listed, comment and share your experience. If you discover somewhere missing, add your find to the map yourself – especially if you find a good Champagne-by-the-glass option.
