Paris is one of those cities where you don’t need a special occasion to drink Champagne. You can have a glass during the day, stop for an aperitif before dinner or open a bottle as part of a long evening. Champagne bars and wine bars are spread across the city, alongside restaurants and hotel bars with their own selections.
Paris is a particularly good city for Champagne if you like choice. You’ll find everything from dedicated Champagne bars to wine bars where Champagne sits alongside bottles from small French producers and wine regions around the world. Some places focus on Champagne by the glass, while others are more suited to settling in with a bottle and dinner.
The neighbourhood you choose can change the experience quite a bit. Saint-Germain-des-Prés has a long-standing wine culture and plenty of places where a glass fits naturally into an afternoon or evening. The Marais, the 6th and 11th arrondissements are also worth exploring if you want to combine wine with food and a more neighbourhood-style Paris experience.
And then there are the classic Paris moments. Champagne with a view of the Eiffel Tower, an aperitif along the Seine or a late dinner in the city centre can all be part of the experience. Paris even has Champagne served from a bar on the Eiffel Tower itself.
Paris is also a great place to explore Champagne beyond the big names. Wine bars and specialist shops can introduce you to smaller producers and grower Champagne, often alongside wines from Burgundy, the Loire, Rhône and other French regions.
If you want to go deeper, Paris also has wine-tasting experiences where you can learn about French regions, grapes and Champagne without leaving the city. And if your trip is specifically about Champagne, the region itself is close enough to visit as a day trip, although staying overnight gives you much more time to explore.
