Where to drink Champagne in Bruges?
Bruges is one of those cities where a glass of Champagne can easily share the table with something very Belgian. The city is deeply rooted in beer culture, from traditional brown pubs to local breweries and its own Brugse Zot beer. But Bruges also has wine bars, restaurants and more relaxed places where Champagne has a place on the menu.
Most of the Champagne spots in Bruges are easy to combine with a day in the historic centre. You can start with a glass of Champagne, stop for a Belgian beer later, or do things the other way around – the city gives you plenty of excuses to compare the two.
And if you’re curious about what to drink locally, Brugse Zot is Bruges’ own city beer. It is brewed by De Halve Maan, one of the breweries in the city, where you can also learn more about Bruges’ brewing history.
Bruges also has a strong food scene, from traditional Belgian dishes to modern restaurants and wine bars. Local tourism sources highlight everything from traditional pubs to cocktail bars and fine dining, so Champagne doesn’t have to mean a formal occasion here.
Good to know
Beer is a big part of Bruges, and that’s worth embracing even if you came looking for Champagne. Belgian beer culture has been recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2016, and 2026 marks ten years since that recognition. Bruges has its own brewing traditions, local beer and numerous cafés with extensive beer menus.
If you want to try something particularly local, look for Brugse Zot or Straffe Hendrik, both associated with De Halve Maan brewery in Bruges. And if beer isn’t your thing, you can happily stay on the Champagne side of the map – there are plenty of restaurants and wine-focused places worth checking out too.
