We had the chance to visit Champagne Philipponnat for the very first time, and the experience left us with an unforgettable impression.
A journey through history
Philipponnat is one of the most respected Champagne houses, with roots stretching back several centuries. During our visit, we could truly feel the sense of history and tradition that defines this iconic maison.
Vineyards in the heart of Aÿ
Our journey began in the vineyards located around Aÿ. The vines are planted on hillside slopes, offering breathtaking views. Walking through the rows of grapes, it became immediately clear why this terroir is considered one of the best in the entire Champagne region.
Inside the winery – real work in action
Next, we moved into the winery. Visiting in early September turned out to be perfect timing – we witnessed the harvest and pressing in full swing. It was fascinating to see how fresh grape juice is born right on the spot, the very beginning of every bottle of Champagne.

Oak barrels and the grandeur of the cellars
From there, the tour led us to the impressive oak barrels, and then down into the cellars. The underground caves were vast and powerful, a place where time moves at a different pace and Champagne is allowed to mature gracefully.
Tasting and a rare jewel
Of course, no visit would be complete without a tasting. At the end of the tour, we sampled some of the house’s finest Champagnes. The absolute highlight was Philipponnat’s crown jewel: Clos des Goisses 2014 – an exceptionally elegant and refined Champagne that made the entire experience truly unforgettable.
